Former St Patrick's Catholic Church, BLESSINGTON

This former St Patrick's Catholic church is of historic cultural significance as a rare example of a shingled church and demonstrates principle characteristics of Federation Carpenter Gothic building.
Built in 1919, it is sited in a prominent position on a hilltop adjacent to Deddington Road, Blessington - which is only a convenient 30 minute drive from the City of Launceston.
The Blessington community boasts a population of 200 residents and is a popular area for recreational activities, including fishing, hunting, cycling and skiing at the nearby Ben Lomond National Park.
The church was tastefully converted to a dwelling in 2005 by the present owners in the style of modern/country, although the quaint exterior remains the same.
The design award winning bathroom is situated in the original vestry and has a unique, huonpine handbasin, a clawfoot bath and a cathedral ceiling.
The main hall comprises of an open-plan modern kitchen, dining area and living area, with the original polished floors, new cedar lancet windows and cathedral ceiling. It is heated by a free-standing woodheater and a heatpump which makes it a welcome, cosy space.
A large main bedroom is situated in the original sanctuary and is carpeted and has built-in cupboards under the staircase. A second bedroom is on a mezzanine floor, utilising the large roof space.
Accessed through french doors is a large, private, timbered entertainment deck with rural views.
The one acre of land is divided into a large vegie plot and chicken enclosure and cleared, fenced paddock.
A single carport with a storage loft, woodshed under and a storage room was recently added in a sympathetic style to the church.
A one bedroom gypsy caravan is available at an aditional cost, negotiable.
Mass was offered only once every two months at this church and was a social occasion for the Catholic community, therefore there were no burials on this property.
Inspections by appointment.
